ABOUT ME
"Some people get named after their grandparents, and others get named after a possessed killer car."
Hello!
My name is Christine Flaherty, and this is my portfolio website.
I am a Journalism and Media Studies Major concentrating on Audio and Podcasting.
My work consists of writing articles, social media posts, video editing, and audio editing.
I interned for the Las Vegas Global Economic Alliance (LVGEA). As an intern, I assisted in writing press releases, editing the LVGEA website, and performing minor PR work.

Fun Facts:
1. My dad named me after Christine, a horror novel written by Stephen King about a possessed car.

2. I started writing in 8th grade after waking up in the middle of the night from a dream that should've been a nightmare, except I felt inspired and decided to write it down. Throughout all of 8th grade, I continued to secretly write at night.

3. I am currently working on writing the rough draft of my first novel. I have a couple of unfinished drafts with over 200,000 words combined: excluding my pile of notebooks.

4. I started to edit videos during my junior year of high school.

5. I have 5 dogs and a cat.
Education
2018-2023
Journalism & Media Studies
Concentration: Audio & Podcasting
University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV)
When I started college, I expected to become an English teacher. I majored in English and hoped to teach high school.
I have a background in teaching. I taught swim lessons for 6 years, led lifeguard inservices for 4 years, and became a lifeguard instructor. I understood how to teach, but realized I wanted to write more.
I graduated from UNLV in Spring 2023 with my Journalism & Media Studies degree.

Skills Gained
Planning and Outlining: I learned how to create content for my target audience.

The education classes taught me how to prepare lesson plans for students of varying education and resource levels. I practiced creating lesson plans that adapted to the students with the mindset that what works for one class might not work for another.

Editing and Revising: In journalism classes, I learned how important the editing and revising process is to create a story. There are stories in everything we write: press releases, blog posts, review articles, news stories, and much more. The editing process allows you (as the writer) to look at your work from another perspective. Whether you reread your writing or give it to a peer, the editing process helps you remove the fluff from your story.
